Bloomingdale is an area that was founded in the early part of the 1800's by Silas, Lyman & Harvey Meacham. These settlers moved into the area at a time where there was little in the way of civilization in the area and what would eventually become Bloomingdale got a humble start as 40 acres of farmland maintained by the Meachams. They had chosen a fine location for their settlement, although this would not become evident until transportation evolved beyond the horse carts that were prevalent at the time.
The prime location that the Meachams had chosen was only 25 miles from nearby Chicago, making it a bedroom community for the thriving city with the advent of the train and automobile. Bloomingdale real estate still displays many of the characteristics that the community was founded on many years ago, the attention to detail and sense of community have done the city quite well. Quaint and scenic streets appear almost untouched by the years, lined with tall trees it really does appear as if in a picture.
