Situated in central North Carolina, the charming town of Morrisville is located in primarily in Wake County, with some of it extending into Durham County. Over the past years, Morrisville's population has boomed to include over 14,000 residents. One reason due to its rapid growth and development is because of its nearby location to North Carolina's Research Triangle region. The town gained its name from Jeremiah Morris in 1852. Morris donated much of his land for use as the community's train depot, water tower, and other buildings. The railroad was one of the primary factors of the town's early success, and in 1875, the town was officially chartered, then unincorporated in 1933, and then reincorporated in 1947.
Many fine education institutions are located in and around Morrisville, some of which include North Carolina Wesleyan College, DeVry University, the Wake Technical Community College, Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hills, and North Carolina State University. Many of the town's beautiful and relaxing parks offer great recreational activities and services to all of its residents and visitors. One of the most popular recreational activities that can be found in Morrisville is the sport of Cricket.
